Film Synopsis
‘KEEP ME SANE’
is a film that illustrates the incredible journey, travelling over 4500 miles to meet up with individuals that unfold powerful stories about the effects and solutions associated with climate and mental health.
It is a remarkable documentary that deals with the reality of ‘summer depression’ in India and brings out efficient evidence about the affects It has on mental health, within the district of Surat. It captures India’s beauty as well as documenting the harsh reality of those who find it difficult to survive in the extreme climates. Research has time and again shown us that ‘Seasonal effective disorder’ often happens mainly for those who struggle to cope with colder climates, which fundamentally diminishes the small-scale population who battle against high levels of heat.
The subject itself informs that extreme temperatures and high humidity both play a huge role which is seen problematic within India. Located in the southwest of India where temperatures are as high as 42 compared to the North of India where levels of heat are as high as 50, where you can begin to imagine the exploration of other people’s stories and how this may substantially be a growing issue.
Through verbal discussions inside and outside the documentary, ‘Keep me sane’ unveils that ‘Meditation’ is known as the main coping mechanism many people in India use to stabilise their health and mind. Within the documentary, the power of meditation, is told by people who have rehabilitated themselves and those who have witnessed others use this method in order to improve their health.
